Weld Strength ACT Extension for Mechanical

Weld Strength toolbar

The main toolbar has three action buttons, Fillet Weld, Butt Weld and Help that are described in the following sections.

The EDRMedeso Weld Strength ACT App is a tool to speed up post processing of weld strength according to Eurocode 3 (or a user criterion) in ANSYS Mechanical. This includes calculation of weld utilization or calculation of minimum weld thickness.

The app can evaluate both fillet and butt welds for all types of FE-models according to the following figure.

The power of the app is that it in one result object can evaluate multiple chains of welds over multiple load cases (“maximum over time” and “time of maximum”) and plot the result on the model as a floating average or as a section average. Results include weld stress components (equivalent and normal stress), utilization, thickness and section forces. All results are also written to a text file for reporting purpose.
